Unitarian Universalist Church of Lexington, KY

2015-2016

For the 2015-2016 year, our RE program will be bringing some of the magic of Hogwarts to Lexington!

Whether the children or youth have read the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling or not, they will have the chance to learn key elements to the UU faith in a fun and interactive way. Each month we will have service projects connecting the whole congregation to local, national and even world wide issues.

Our Preschool/Kindergarten class will be doing UUCL's Spirit Play and participating in the Hogwarts service projects in appropriate ways.

Our High School Youth will be helping with Hogwarts, if desired, and learning more about UU history and identity.  In the spring, we plan on embarking on a journey of Neighboring Faiths including visiting various houses of worship.

We will also be offering many chances to play Quidditch (J.K. Rowling's invented game) without the flying broomsticks.  Children, youth, and adults of all ages are welcome to play.

September

In the month of September the Horcrux we will be fighting is

HUNGER!

These are the ways families can get involved:

  • Breakfast at the Catholic Action Center - Coordinating with Pat Lake 3rd Sun. (pal9972@gmail.com) and Marion Joseph 4th Sun. (marionjoseph@sbcglobal.net) to bring food, prepare and serve Breakfast at CAC on Sept 19th or Sept 26th.  Young children can help with the choosing of a Breakfast item, but children need to be 12 and up to actually serve the Breakfast.  There is limited space so plan ahead with Marion or Pat.   If you enjoy the experience it may become a regular activity!

  • Pay It Forward Lunch after church on Sept. 20th.  The kids will prepare lunch for UU church goers, and if they like, they can "Pay It Forward" by making a donation to support CROP Hunger Walk and God's Pantry.

  • CROP Hunger Walk Sept 27th at 3:30pm People of any age can collect donations and participate in the CROP( Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Hunger Walk in downtown Lexington.  25% goes to God's Pantry, 75% goes to help hunger and poverty with supplies, resources and education around the world.  CWS also supports our own UU Service Committee.

UUCL has a team!  http://hunger.cwsglobal.org/site/TR/2015CROPHungerWalks/TR-CHW2015?team_id=120041&pg=team&fr_id=20984 It is easy to donate online and get your your friends and family to help too.
